Last year, I was inspired when Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri won their first Formula 1 races. I imagined a moment they would’ve have had where after all the celebrations had settled—and when they were finally alone, they were reflecting on their journey, the sacrifices they made, the doubts they overcame, and the unwavering belief that led them to this moment. That thought sparked an idea: I wanted to write a script that captured this, and built around a powerful question—What would you say to your younger self now that you've achieved your dream?
The script followed Norris and Piastri as they approached their dream machine, reminiscing about their childhood and the journey that brought them here. Then, they would turn to see their younger selves staring back at them, wide-eyed with wonder. In that silent moment, their younger selves would simply say, Thank you for never giving up on us.
Once I finished the four-page script, I felt immensely proud of what I had created and wanted to share it. I decided to send it to McLaren’s Digital Team, hoping they’d see the vision behind it. I knew this was a long shot and that it was highly unlikely I’d get a response, but I wanted to try. After a month with no response, I wrote a detailed letter explaining my motivation—how their drivers’ achievements had inspired me to create something that could, in turn, inspire young fans to chase their own dreams. Again, no response. Undeterred, I sent a final letter, still aware of the low chances but still believing in the concept and its potential impact.
Months passed, and into 2025, I felt I had one last opportunity. I reached out directly to Henrik Ringnér, the person responsible for McLaren’s Film and Long-Form Content, and someone I’ve admired for some time. Along with my message and script, I asked for his thoughts.
To my surprise, he replied first thing the next morning, expressing how it was “well-written” and stated how it was “an ambitious concept.” After more than eight months of persistence, I had finally achieved my goal: sharing a story I deeply believed in with someone I looked up to.
